Dr. Brooke Grindlinger, Chief Scientific Officer of the NY Academy of Sciences didn’t take the conventional female scientist’s route. Instead of the traditional, academic path, Brooke pursued her passion of science communications. Brooke is breaking barriers faced by women in STEM and works with young female scientists pursuing their own ‘unconventional’ paths. By leveraging her voice and platform, Brooke engages and educates audiences, emphasizing the importance of science in shaping the future.

Prior to joining the Academy, Dr. Brooke Grindlinger served for eight years as Science editor for The Journal of Clinical Investigation. She has spoken to over 10,000 people at colleges, conferences, events and corporations. Additionally, Brooke has appeared as an expert speaker at the United Nations, CBS Interactive’s ZDNet, Facebook Live, Global TV, and The Pain Channel, just to name a few. In 2013 Brooke and her husband founded the Glenn and Brooke Grindlinger International Experience Award. The Award provides scholarships for students at Cornell University to study abroad in her native Australia.

In 2021, she was named by Crain’s New York Business as a “Most Notable in Nonprofits and Philanthropy” for her work providing educational programs that serve the scientific community and general public as a crucial clearinghouse of accurate, verified data, and analysis about the COVID-19 pandemic.
