March Is Women’s History Month

Who Should We Celebrate?

There are so many women who should be celebrated. And many more who we may never have heard of personally, but to someone, a woman who should be admired. Maybe they only did something trivial, like give a cup of coffee to someone who needed an ear. Then again, maybe that isn’t so trivial.

In thinking about this, I wondered what makes a woman memorable, someone who history will remember. And who are the current women who should and will be remembered for generations to come?

Each year is given a theme. 2019’s theme is “Visionary Women: Champions of Peace & Nonviolence”. This year we honor women who have worked toward using nonviolence as a way to make a difference. How many women do we know who do this on a daily basis. From mothers to teachers to friends, from homes to schools to work and community. In our daily practice, we strive to be peacemakers.

Women are meant to nourish, to give comfort, to nurture. We are that and so much more. Strong women who persevere are memorable. Women who are kind and caring are memorable. So too, are those who have struggled and gotten up every day to put one foot in front of the other and make it through the day, striving to make a difference. A difference for themselves should be on the top of the list. It’s something that so many of us need to be reminded to do every day.

So to all of the women who we personally celebrate, and to all those who are yet to be recognized, let’s raise a glass and say ‘Thank You’.
