Today we’re celebrating International Women’s Day, March 8, 2022. With a number of themes running through today, I thought I would pick a few and spotlight some of the extraordinary women I have had the privilege to have on this podcast. A clip of conversation is included.

Women & Tech –

Advancing gender parity in technology and celebrating women forging innovation. I chose Dr. Alisa Stephens-Shields. Dr. Stephens-Shields is an Assistant Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania. The field of science has always been a struggle for female scientists to break into, but she’s done it. Add being a mom and a woman of color to the mix and that struggle becomes more challenging.

Women & Work –

Building workplaces where women thrive. I chose Chandra Stevens, Director of Rise, part of the Mom Project. Their mission – connecting moms with world-class companies. Her goal – to provide economic opportunities to 10,000 women in the next three years.

Forging Change –

I chose New York Times bestselling author Anita Diamant and Academy Award-winning producer Melissa Berton. Melissa, founder of The Pad Project, produced the award-winning documentary Period. End of Sentence. Anita wrote the bestselling The Red Tent. With the foreword written by Melissa, Anita wrote Period. End of Sentence, exploring menstrual issues and period poverty around the globe.

Empowerment –

Shining a spotlight on activity uplifting inspiring women to pursue goals without bias or barrier. I chose Alyse Nelson, Co-founder and President of Vital Voices. ‘One of the things I’ve learned along the way is that a person’s path to leadership is rarely planned out perfectly – it’s an experience that begins with a conviction to do something.’ – Alyse Nelson

Women’s Health –

Assisting women to be in a position of power to make informed decisions about their health. I chose Dr. Jennifer Lincoln. An Ob Gyn, Dr. Lincoln turned to social media to bust myths surrounding women’s health, going viral with facts.
